Mike Hayashi Mr. Hayashi has a thorough and balanced knowledge of advanced cable broadband technologies -- from to headend, through distribution plant, to in-home electronics - through 23 years of direct executive involvement on both cable service provider and equipment manufacturing fronts. He has held his current position as Vice President, Advanced Engineering Time Warner Cable, since 1993. In this position he has managed selection and negotiated the purchase of over 1.75 million digital set-tops per year, after successfully leading the company's transition from an installed base of more than 4 million analog units. He has a long-term involvement in CableLabs' "OpenCable" initiative, including inventing and being first MSO proponent of a removable security unit called a "point of deployment" (POD) module. Prior to his current job Mr. Hayashi was Vice President of International Development at Time Warner where he guided external technology partners including Toshiba Corp. and Itochu in advanced technology product development, as part of then newly-formed Time Warner Entertainment unit.
Before joining Time Warner Cable Mr. Hayashi filled a variety of positions at Scientific Atlanta, ending his career there in 1992 as Vice President, Video Product Line, Subscriber Systems Division, where he managed the company's wide set-top product line and developed requirements for the first integrated electronic program guide, and the first widely-deployed addressable set-top with an on-screen display.
