Jerry Butler
Senior Director, DTV Strategic Services, PBS
Alexandria, Va.

Jerry Butler is the Senior Director of the DTV Strategic Services Group at PBS. The DTV Strategic Services Group provides technical information, training, and engineering support for PBS member stations to assist them with making a successful transition to digital broadcasting. In addition, Mr. Butler oversees the Engineering Lab, the unit of PBS's technology and Operations Division that tests leading edge DTV equipment for use by PBS and its member stations. He also served on the design team, and as the Executive Director, for the award-winning HARRIS/PBS DTV Express nationwide digital television training tour.

Jerry has more than 20 years of experience in the broadcast industry. He came to PBS in 1998 from WETA-TV in Washington, D.C. where he was the Vice President for Engineering, Operations, Production, and Information Technology. In that role, he designed and built one of the first DTV stations in the United States. During his tenure at WETA, he also served in several production and engineering roles. Prior to joining WETA, Mr. Butler spent a short time in commercial broadcasting, with CBS.

He is a member of SMPTE, SBE, and WEBE. Committee work includes SMPTE-EBU, PBS Engineering Committee, NAB-SBE Engineering Conference Committee, and Co Chair of the Studio Implementation Committee for the Model Station Project.
