Terry Smith Terry Smith is the Director of Video Informatics at Sarnoff Corporation, where he has worked since joining the RCA labs in 1979. In his current capacity, Terry oversees Sarnoff's efforts in the transition to digital technologies for broadband markets including cable, terrestrial and satellite broadcast. Terry is the technical lead for a new technology venture, AgileVision, created to provide flexible and scalable solutions to DTV broadcasters. Terry co-led the team effort that introduced MPEG compression and packetized delivery technologies to the FCC Advisory Committee in the form of AD-HDTV, Advanced Digital High Definition TV, and led the group that developed these principles for the DIRECTV DBS system. He directed Sarnoff's pioneering development of DTV test, measurement and compliance products. He has served as facilitator of the Grand Alliance HDTV Transport Specialist Group and was co-leader of the integration efforts of the Grand Alliance HDTV system. Terry serves as chair of the Television Data Systems Subcommittee of the Consumer Electronics Alliance (CEA) as well as the Subgroup on Station Issues for the ATSC Implementation Subcommittee. He also serves as the President of the Consumer Electronics Society of the IEEE. He is a member of both the IEEE and SMPTE. Terry holds a BSEE degree from the University of Notre Dame, and an MSEE degree from Drexel University. He is a frequent contributor to technical publications and currently holds seventeen US patents.
