Kent Osborne

Kent L. Osborne has been part of the South Dakota Public Broadcasting family for almost 20 years. He started as a part-time technician. Today, he is the Webmaster of South Dakota Public Broadcasting's multi-award-winning Web site, www.sdpb.org.

He is South Dakota Public Broadcasting's online pioneer, first developing the network's web site in 1996 and quickly producing one of the best sites in the country. www.sdpb.org earned first place honors nationwide from PBS in 2000 as well as first place honors in the state Associated Press radio awards in 2000.

Mr. Osborne is responsible for the design, maintenance, promotion and future planning for two major sites:

  • sdpb.org - South Dakota Public Broadcasting's home Web site.
  • DakotaCast.org - SDPB Online's up-to-the-minute daily Web newspaper.
His expertise has been sought at the local, state and national levels. In 1999-2001, he chaired the PBS Web Developers Subcommittee. At present, he serves as Vice Chairman of the PBS Information Technology Steering Committee.

His background also includes photography for the Associated Press and the Argus Leader.

Mr. Osborne was born in Mitchell and attended local schools there. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

He also has been an active and valuable member of his community. He was named 2000 Easter Seals South Dakota Volunteer of the year, and serves as Den Leader of Wolf Den 1, Vermillion Cub Scouts.
